Head of Computational Biology Research Site & Global TA Head

A global pharmaceutical company are currently growing their Computational Biology capabilities in Connecticut and have created an exciting new position for a Head of Computational Biology Research Site, & Global TA Head to support the future growth of this department and strengthen Comp Bio globally.
This role will lead and coordinate Computational Biology activities at a major Discovery Research site. The successful leader will represent Computational Biology in the global and local Leadership Team and equivalent senior committees. This unique role will partner with 2 big therapeutic areas (Immunology & Respiratory, Cancer Immunology) to agree and prioritize the portfolio of computational biology activities/areas of focus.
In this global position you will oversee a team of almost 25 mostly based in CT and another small group in Germany. Building a strong relationship with the Head of IT, you will also support the ongoing development of data infrastructure in the US, which has recently had an 8 figure investment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
*Accountable, jointly with other Computational Biology Leadership Team members to define strategic priorities for respective Computational Biology teams aligned with Discovery Research intent, Global Computational Biology and Digital Sciences intent and strategic goals.
*Accountable, jointly with Discovery Research global Therapeutic Area heads, for setting the strategic priorities (e.g NTC discovery qualification, biomarker development, use of human data etc.), and the resulting projects/initiatives that the global Computational Biology team should focus on. This will require stakeholder management across sites.
*Joint-accountability with other Computational Biology Leadership Team members and Computational Biology Therapeutic Area Heads (Directors) to manage the global portfolio of activities that will deliver the strategic intent for Computational Biology.
*Key and smooth interface between Computational Biology and co-manage collective resources effectively to ensure the Therapeutic Areas are successful as a global organization within Discovery Research.
*Define approach / plans for strategic collaborations within covered domain as well as active in Global activities. Maintain current collaborations and proactively identify collaboration opportunities with the Discovery Research.
*Accountable for team development (including hiring, onboarding, and the development/training of people) to meet desired outcomes and motivated organization.
*Communicate (be ambassadors) for global strategies and vision with their respective teams. Ambassador for the implementation of the strategic roadmap from 2020
*Accountable for deploying and managing resources for dedicated Therapeutic Areas.
*PhD from an accredited institution in relevant field - Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational biology, system biology research, Mathematics, Statistics or a related fields.
*Ten-plus (10+) years of experience in industry (preferred) and / or leading position in academia
*Solid understanding for one or more indications such as Immunology / Immuno-Oncology / Respiratory
*6+ years of experience in managing teams, including leading leaders
*Knowledge of various common large public datasets and computational methods
*Manage multiple projects concurrently and collaborate across disciplines.
*Senior leadership skills in a complex matrix role, experience with leading leaders (at least at team level)
*Expertise and understanding: how to successfully manage complex topics in a large organization.
*Broad experience and knowledge in Computational Biology Research and Development as well as international and interdisciplinary knowledge/skills addressing discovery research computational biology and data science initiatives
*Biological knowledge of Immunology / Immuno-Oncology / Respiratory or similar research area
*International exposure in daily business
